To answer valid criticism Mutahar uploads a rushed scriptless response where he downplays the severity of "just buying a game console", waves goodbye to disappointed viewers, and defends his decision to support certain Switch 2 games. Mutahar never returned the console or followed up with negative coverage of Nintendo that he was doing prior to buying.

The FBI Is Such A Joke...

42 Days Since S2 Launch

No mention of Switch 2 despite the common connection to Nintendo taking down romsites through the FBI. Generally talks about politics and criticizes US government for their involvement.

YouTubers are regularly producing positive Switch 2 content without backlash even if they previously supported the boycott or voiced opinions on the price/console.

SomeOrdinaryGamers (Mutahar) stirred up drama for being a hypocrite, but that barely lasted a week beyond Switch 2's launch.

Take a look at his recent comment sections:

Supporting Anti-Consumer

A common defense for content creators is that buying Nintendo products isn't actually supporting anti-consumer practices. So we ask the question:

How do you support anti-consumer practices? Here are the four best methods to ensuring your favorite corporation stays on top of people's wallets.

  • Share their posts online

  • Write a good review

  • Promote their products

  • Shutdown any negativity

Business Expense

One of the most common excuses for buying a Switch 2 is that it is somehow required for content creation. The term "business expense" is used for claiming purchases as a tax write-off that can help a creator save some of that money used, but a Switch 2 is not considered ordinary or necessary. If the goal is to file for tax relief then the closest thing would be an "equipment rental" which requires returning the console after use.

Furthermore the general cost ($500) can not easily be recouped through ad revenue because gaming content has one of the lowest CPM (cost per million) returns on the platform. It is a very unwise decision to risk a channel's growth on a large investment that produces content for an overly saturated topic.

Creators Went Negative

Even when looking at top gaming channels, their view counts are too low on Switch 2 content to turn a profit. Audiences aren't engaged and that shows a major impact on the Nintendo creator space. YouTubers can not continue to claim their console is a key to success or relevancy, they bought it because they do not care enough about their audience's grievances to stand as an example.

Most videos end up buried and top videos have poor to below average engagement metrics. Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza videos were rarely featured in the channel's top 10 uploads (yearly).

At this current rate most channels would have to publish 11+ well performing videos to break even on a Switch 2. Frequent uploads means higher editing costs, viewer fatigue, and content staleness.

The base cost of a Switch 2 game isn't being covered through uploads alone. An overwhelming majority of creators lost money by picking up Donkey Kong Bananza despite it's relevancy.

Smash Community Cashed In

With on-going tensions between Nintendo and the Super Smash Bros. tournament community, players are selling out instead of adding their perspective to the boycott. Among top players, Smash content creators, and tournament organizers that invest thousands into the competitive scene: they still chose to support the same company that has historically shutdown their events.

There are no gameplay differences or technical advantages on Switch 2 nor is there any word of a new entry to the series coming any time soon.

Obligation to Speak Up

Anybody who regularly produces relevant gaming content is well aware of how people do not approve of the Switch 2 and/or its games. These creators are example setters for the rest of the community in how we should engage with Nintendo's products. Posting any kind of positive Switch 2 content is effectively consenting to higher prices and encouraging consumers to deal with it so they can join the fun. We need to count on creators to voice our concerns and stand strong as an example for the masses.

Your View is Worth a Lot

Regardless of whether a channel should speak up, they try to create content that you want to watch. By leaving a constructive comment, you make them consider other content that doesn't support Switch 2.

Who can we count on?

When considering a creator that you want to support, look at the consistency of their word. Steer clear of channels that latch onto buzzworthy clickbait news and those that don't implement sources for their information. Also take a look at their channel history to see if they used console hype to produce gameplay for recent Switch 2 titles. Finally it's worth thinking about the stance of the channel and how supporting them could demonstrate negligence.

Thankfully some creators take the stand against Nintendo and offer constructive criticism that brings awareness to their bad practices. You can count on these channels to reveal the truth behind the gaming industry's fight for control over pricing and media rights as a whole. We put together a playlist full of channels that put in a good word for the Switch 2 Boycott here:
